Technical Bulletin: Uploading Service Assistant data with SAOnline

This document describes how to upload data collected by the Service Assistant to the FDSI servers using the SAOnline application.

Step 1: Starting the SAOnline application
Tap on the "SAOnline" button at the main Service Assistant screen to launch the SAOnline Application.

Note: If the SAOnline icon does not appear in the main screen then the application has not been installed on the palm. Please reinstall the software provided to you when you purchased the Service Assistant. If you do not have the required software then you need to contact FDSI to obtain one.

Step 2: Configuring SAOnline: Setting the 'Connection' option

  1. At the main screen, tap on the menu at the top and select 'Connection'.

  2. In the form that pops up enter 'sync.acrx.com' as the servername.

Note: If you are using the Softtick PPP software (used to connect via the internet to our servers instead of using a modem), then you must enter the following numbers instead '146.145.96.70' in the servername field. For instructions on how to use SoftickPPP please refer to this article.

  3. Leave the timeout option to its default value. This option determines how long the application will try to connect to the FDSI server before timing out. You can increase this to a higher value is your connection keeps getting time out.

Step 3: Configuring SAOnline: Setting the Sync name and Password

  1. Tap on the button that says 'Set SyncName & Password'

  2. On the screens that follow enter the Palm SyncName (e.g. SYNC1130 or ACRX 51 ) and Password that was assigned to you when you purchased the Service Assistant from FDSI. This information should be printed on the back of your palm that you purchased from FDSI.

Note: If you do not know your SyncName or Password or have lost it then you need to contact FDSI to obtain one.

Step 4: Configuring SAOnline: Setting the Timezone and Modem

  1. Tap on the drop down menu that says 'SELECT TIMEZONE' and select the appropriate timezone that you are in currently e.g. EST.

  2. Tap on the drop down menu that says 'SELECT CONNECTION' and select the appropriate connection from the list. E.g is you are using a modem then select the apprpriate modem e.g. 'US modem MaGlobe' from the list. If you are using Softick PPP then select the same from the list.

Note: You may change the modem selection to a different modem if the selected one does not connect succesfully. For advanced connection options, please refer to this article.

Step 5: Connecting to the server

  1. Tap on the 'Connect' button.

Note: The palm must be mated properly to the modem at this point for the connection to be established. You should hear a dial tone as the modem tries to establish a connection with the server.

  2. The application will now establish a connection to the server and upload all newly collected Service Assistant data to the server. It will also download any relevant files/updates as needed e.g. compressor maps, newly assigned inspection forms etc.

  3. After the application has finished its tasks you will see a message appear at the bottom saying 'Synchronization successful'. This means that all the data has been uploaded successfully.

Note: In case you encounter any errors in the process of uploading the data you must notify FDSI as soon as possible. In this case please note down the error that was returned by the application to help us troubleshoot the matter.
