PocketPC Application Installation Instructions

This page describes the process for installing FDSI applications on a PocketPC.

Requirements:

  • StyleTap Emulator - allows Palm applications to run on a PocketPC.
  • FDSI SAOnline - synchronizes with FDSI servers and installs applications.
Note: You will need an FDSI SyncName (and password). If you do not have one, please contact Field Diagnostic Services Inc.

Step 5: Sync with FDSI servers using SAOnline

  • SAOnline will be installed to the 'Programs' directory on the PocketPC.
  • Start SAOnline by tapping 'Start -> Programs -> SAOnline'
  • Use your FDSI syncname and password to connect to the FDSI servers. Required files and programs will be downloaded automatically and installed to the 'Programs' directory.

Troubleshooting:

Internet Connection:

  • A cradled PocketPC can use your computer's internet connection if a 'Standard Partnership' was selected when cradling it.
  • If you wish to use your cellular provider's internet service on a SmartPhone, it might be necessary to turn on GPRS if it is not enabled by default.

Communicating with the FDSI Hand Tool

  • Ensure the serial port (COM1) is not being used by any other application. Some common applications that might be using COM1 are IR (beam) communication and the foldable keyboard. To turn off IR communication temporarily, click on Start->Settings->(Connections Tab)->Beam. Uncheck the box that says "Receive all incoming beams".
